Quekett's Home-Made
Compound Microscope
This interesting home-made microscope is a part of the Royal Microscopical Society collection and has been described by Gerard Turner as possibly being a boyhood microscope of Edwin J. Quekett.
The microscope is made of a soft wood and contains a brass "stage" to support the specimen. The objective is a single bi-convex lens fitted into a brass cell and pressed into the nosepiece, while the eyepiece has two lenses: a small bi-convex and a larger plano-convex. Charles F. White presented this microscope to the Royal Society.
